Electro-Optical Tester - EOT

Electro-Optical Tester - EOT exploits the reflectivity of the ball surface and evaluates the quantity of the reflected light in accordance with set sensitivity. The EOT sorts the balls into groups (outlets) "OK" or "EOT fault".

The EOT is used in the BASC, BS and BSC machines for evaluating the surface-quality of balls with two methods:

  • EOT 1 – testing of point defects (relative or absolute method)
  • EOT 2 - integral method (measuring of polish)

The EOT probe is covered laser device, operating in range of visible spectrum light (wavelength 660±20nm) with output power less than 1mW. It is the CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT.

Technical parameters

With a ball diameter of less than 10mm the illuminated area is dependent on the diameter of the ball. If the diameter is 10mm or more the illuminated area remains constant.

Electro-Optical Tester – EOT-AS new

exploits the reflectivity of the ball surface and evaluates the quantity of the reflected light in accordance with set sensitivity. The EOT sorts the balls into groups (outlets) "OK" or "EOT fault".

It is a tester with different construction and shape (compared to the Electro-Optical Tester EOT). The illuminated area on the ball’s surface is less when using the EOT-AS. As a result, the EOT-AS has a higher sensitivity.

The use of this tester for the wet inspection is especially suitable because on the surface of a ball immersed in a liquid there is no dust or other impurities.

The EOT-AS is used in the BSW testing and sorting machines for evaluating the surface-quality of balls with two methods (as well as in the case of EOT):

  • EOT 1 - testing for point defects (relative or absolute methods)
  • EOT 2 - integral method (measuring of polish)

For ball diameters in the range approx. 10 to 14 mm (approx. 3/8 to 9/16 inch) the illuminated area remains constant (at approx. 0,05mm2).

If the Ball Scanner BSW 1014 AS is equipped with the EOT-AS tester, its sensitivity for point defects is approx. 4x higher than in the case of use of the EOT tester.

The exactitude of the method EOT1 and EOT2 remains the same as for the EOT tester.
